Woolpower
I’ll be honest, when this first arrived I thought someone had sent me my school jumper from the seventies. Out of the box, it just didn’t seem very technical. It’s pretty much a black jumper I thought.
On closer inspection it turns out to be a base layer tee from Woolpower of Sweden, and like my favourite Swedish export Wallander, it’s maybe a bit dull and have a subdued demeanour but it’s actually a wee bit handy.
We get a mix of merino and polyester with a wee bit of polyamide and elastane to give it some stretch. There’s no side seams to rub, which is nice. The merino is mainly on the inside face stitched in tiny wee loops, with the polyester in a more traditional pattern on the outside face. Available in four colours: dull green, dull grey, dull blue and black. It’s like Henning Mankell did the colourway for them.
Short sleeves means it would normally be used in the warmer months on it’s own, but given how cold it’s been, I’ve been using this as a vest with another layer on top and I have to say, it’s really rather good. My mother always used to tell me to wear a semmit and now I know why. You get the benefits of merino in that it’s light, warm and wicks very well, but in a much harder wearing design.
So it’s massively unimpressive to look at, but the complete reverse to wear. If only they did it in orange…
