Well that title might result in some more traffic from Google. This is a kind of review and gear diary all rolled into one.

I asked Kirsty if she fancied modelling these for the review, but I was politely declined. Oh well, it seems I shall never diversify into photographing women in their underwear. Probably for the best, that seems to be a rather competitive market. I’ll stick to photographing people in the mountains, fully clothed. Probably with beards. Almost as glam eh?

Instead of lingering on that, lets have a look at two pieces from Icebreaker, the Sprite Hot Pant and the matching Sprite Racerback Tank.

Check those colours out. Instant win.

Regulars will know K is training to be a Pilates teacher, so she’s in need of good sportswear that’s comfortable in both warm and cold environments and has a good degree of stretch. The material is 150 weight merino/lycra mix, so there’s both requirements sorted. The pants are cut in a shortie style, low rise. The racerback tank has a deep v-neck and is a snug fit.

K might not be keen on modelling it but she’s keen on this kit. It’s been getting tons of use over the past eight months and countless wash cycles, and it still looks like it’s new. I asked her to sum it up in her own words, this is what I got:

I’m a UK size 8-10 and the size smalls are great, there’s no VPL through leggings when wearing the pants and the thick elastic band at the top doesn’t dig in a create a muffin top.

The fit on the pants is good but the vest is brilliant; the cut at the top is good to show clear arm movements in the shoulder girdle, which is ideal for demonstrations and freedom of movement during exercise. The material is warm but not sweaty. In fact, temperature management is very good, I’m not sweating after an hour-long class. The colours are groovy. I don’t wear these as underwear, but overwear, so look is important.

So there you have it. Some of those functions seem ideal for the mountain environment too, so something a wee bit different to consider.
